One month ago, (3/8/2020)I began to write a song. It was inspired, before anything unusual was happening here, by the Scripture verse: "Draw Near. Hold Fast. Take Care," from the Book of Hebrews. Then, as young musician-friends were becoming informed that their music schools were closing and important performances were being cancelled, the song's voice changed, to that of a violinist playing in an empty public square; The Maestro having roused him to song. As I began to rough out a video for the song, my friend who is a nurse told me that she was bracing herself for the coming onslaught in the hospital, and so I let the song and video move into an expression of honor and gratitude for all of our brave and selfless healthcare workers. They draw near, hold fast, and take care, when no one else can. This song features violinist Lucas Stratmann, who recorded his part remotely from his home in New York City and shared it with me through the magic of technology.
